Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye who conducted a successful operation on a foetus, is a Nigerian born surgeon who got his medical degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Nigerian in 1988. He continued to Virginia Commonwealth University, in the US, where he got PhD in Anatomy in 1996.
He specializes in fetal and neonatal surgery. His research interests of which the study of endothelial-leukocyte and endothelial-tumor cell interactions are part, has proven fruitful in due time as he, together with his colleague, has successfully operated on a foetus which was to be called Lynlee Hope later, that suffered from a kind of tumor called Sacrococcygeal Teratoma (SCT). The surgery was a spectacle, in that the foetus was brought out of the mother’s womb, operated on and sent back into the womb.
The foetus was 23 weeks old when this operation was carried out and after 36 weeks, she was out in the world, LYNLEE HOPE, a normal living being! He did it! Dr. Olutoye, the great surgeon! He’s currently a Co-Director at the Texas Children’s Fetal Center, US.
This man is a great representation of the ingenuity of the Nigerian People. The Nigerian man is fashioned in such a way that he’ll never be comfortable with mundanity but always aspire to stand out!
Also note, as MoveNaija will always say, that Dr. Olutoye’s success is not accidental but one springing out of long time interest and unflinching passion.
