JAILER By Asa

No no no no
I’m in chains you’re in chains too
I wear uniforms and you wear uniforms too
I’m a prisoner,
You’re a prisoner too Mr Jailer
I have fears you have fears too
I will die, but you sef will die too
Life is beautiful
Don’t you think so too Mr Jailer
Chorus
I’m talking to you jailer
Stop calling me a prisoner
Let he who is without sin
Be the first to cast the stone Mr Jailer
Mr Jailer Man

Verse
You suppress all my strategies
You oppress every part of me
What you don’t know,
You’re a victim too Mr Jailer
You don’t care about my point of view
If I die another will work for you
So you treat me like a modern slave Mr Jailer

Chorus
I’m talking to you jailer
Stop calling me a prisoner
Let he who is without sin
Be the first to cast the stone Mr Jailer
Mr Jailer Man
Bridge Instrumental

Verse
You see, if you’re walking in a market place
Don’t throw stones
Even if you do, you just might hit
One of your own
Life is not about your policies
All the time
So you better rearrange your
Philosophies and be good to your Fellow man
Jailer

Chorus
I’m talking to you jailer
Stop calling me a prisoner
Let he who is without sin
Be the first to cast the stone Mr Jailer
Mr Jailer Man

Refrain
I hear my baby say
I wanna be president
I wan chop money
From my government
What he don’t know
What he won’t know
What he can’t know
Jailer, Jailer oh
Be good oh
Be good oh
Be good oh
somebody
Be good oh
Be good oh
Be good oh
Be good oh
Be good oh
Be good oh
Jailer, Jailer

Born in Paris, France to Nigerian parents, her family relocated to Nigeria when she was 2 years. She grew up in a small town near Lagos, South West, Nigeria. She attended the prestigious Peter King College of Music (Workshop) located at Music Village, Ilogbo, Oko-Afo, Lagos State, Nigeria where she was trained by the versatile Peter King (a contemporary of Fela Anikulapo Kuti – the revered Afro Beat crooner). Twenty years after her relocation to Nigeria, she relocated to Paris where her life as an artist kicked off.

During her time in Nigeria whenever she returned home from school, she grew up listening to musical acts like Lauryn Hill, Angelique Kidjo, Femi Kuti, Badu and D’Angelo. These musical acts continue to have a major influence on her musical career though she has carved a niche for herself.

A critical analysis of her song JAILER shows that she is very much concerned about the socio-economic situation of the world and uses her song to try and correct the anomaly of many oppressors who use their wealth, position and social status to oppress others. In oppressing others, she says, they are also oppressing themselves.

As a Nigerian, she is well aware of the socio economic imbalance in the polity and therefore uses her song to address this issue and thus awaken the consciousness of everyone. In one of the verses in her song, she admonishes everyone to do good to their neighbours and not throw stones if they are walking in a market place as the stones they throw might hit one of their own.

Asa is a Nigerian musician whose music provokes deep meditation at all times be it addressing concepts of love, harmony or government injustice and the likes.
